Shooting Notes
Indoors:
  • Shooting times are:
    Sunday - assembly @ 2pm, sighters @ 2:30pm
    Friday - assembly @ 7pm, sighters @7:30pm
  • The target area cannot be set out single-handed, so please arrive in sufficient time to assist to ensure a prompt start!
  • Archers are reminded that everyone has a responsibility to help with the setting out of the target area. Many hands make light work and those who are unwilling to help with the putting-out or putting-away of carpets/targets may be asked to leave the shooting area.
  • Archers are also reminded that shoes for indoors MUST be smooth- and flat-soled (no heels!) or they may be asked to leave the shooting area. Archers cannot shoot in bare- or stocking-feet.
Outdoors:
  • The starting times on Sundays will be 11.00 a.m. except where a 12 dozen round, (i.e. FITA, York or Hereford etc.) is shot, when the starting time will be 10.00 a.m. Your co-operation is requested with regard to the punctual start of club shoots; late-comers will be expected to start a separate round unless the number of arrows missed can be made up, but subject to the following Note.
  • N.B. For Club Trophy shoots, late-comers will not be allowed to make up arrows missed by being late.
  • Every day is a club Target Day (outdoors) and will be eligible for Handicap and club Record purposes provided that the scores are recorded on official score sheets and shot in accordance with G.N.A.S. Rules of Shooting, copies of which can be bought from the club secretary (half price for members new to archery during the past year).
  • To be eligible for Handicaps/Classifications, Records, club trophies or other awards, you are only permitted the number of sighter arrows laid down by GNAS Rules. In other words, if you shoot earlier in the day on our field, your score later that day is not eligible for Handicap, Records or Trophies etc. You can still shoot, but your later scores won't count if shot on the same range.
  • Please ensure that all score sheets handed in are correctly completed with your name and date, the round shot, the type of bow you used (Recurve, Compound, Longbow etc.), your signature and the signature of a GNAS members who witnessed your arrows as they were being recorded. Unless this information is shown, the round will not be recorded in the club records book.
  • For safety reasons, other rounds will not be permitted during times designated for Clout. Conversely, Clout will not be permitted during times designated for other rounds. During times when there is no designated round, Clout shooting must give way to Target shooting, and Clout may only be shot if no person who is shooting a Target Round, needs to come nearer than 50 yards of any clout shooter's line of shot; even to search for arrows that have missed the target. This 50 yards safety requirement may be increased at any time by committee decision.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that the necessary details of 'away' tournaments (Date, Round, Score, Venue, Bow type) are given to the Records Officer. This is important for Handicap/Classification purposes. Score sheets can be left in the container for collection, as can details of 'away' shoots.
  • If you shoot more than one bow/style, you will be given separate Handicap Ratings for each.
  • Club Calendar Scheduled Events: There shall be no shooting on the field for a period of one hour immediately prior to the time set out in the Calendar for commencement of the advertised Target Round. This, to give ample time for the field to be cleared or re-set out for shooting the advertised round in an orderly manner. The targets for the round are to be set out from the left side of the field. Those who wish to shoot other rounds, (or just practice), must set out their targets from the right hand side of the field. Those who have shot earlier at the ground may still join in shooting alongside members shooting the advertised round but their scores will not count towards any club award or record or Handicap or Classification adjustments.
